Chaya is an engaging and evocative performer who has studied Middle Eastern dance since 1993, and has been teaching since 1998.  She grew up in Colorado and developed a love for music, artistic expression and nature.  Her first creative outlet was writing; she achieved a Master of Fine Arts in Writing and Poetics from the Naropa Institute in 1997.   She has enjoyed traveling abroad as well as across the Western United States and loves to heed the beckoning call of the open road, when time and funds permit.  She is especially connected with the outdoors, enjoying camping, hiking, snorkeling, gardening and even just hanging out under the sun or stars.  She has studied Eastern philosophy for many years, and has found great interest in Druidry since 1998.  Her husband Andrew is a photographer, martial arts instructor (Chinese Kempo karate) and journalist.  They live in Denver with many cats.

Chaya believes that belly dancing is a celebration of the feminine spirit, as well as being a terrific workout and great fun to do.  She sees the dance as a way to connect, to express, to rejoice and to play.  There is also an element of whimsy in many of her performances, as she has a well-developed sense of humor and tries not to take herself too seriously.
